What to expect at your first visit
Your first appointment is a psychiatric evaluation. The psychiatrist asks about your symptoms, how long they have lasted, your health, past treatment, the medications you take and your family history.
You leave with a diagnosis, or a plan to reach one, and your treatment options, which may include medication. If medication is recommended, the psychiatrist explains what it is for and its common side effects, and follow-up visits adjust it over time. Many follow-up visits can be done by telehealth.
