What to expect at your first visit
Some exams need preparation. For an abdominal ultrasound you may be asked not to eat for several hours beforehand, and for a pelvic ultrasound you may be asked to arrive with a full bladder. We tell you how to prepare when we book your exam.
The exam is painless: a sonographer moves a small probe over your skin with a water-based gel. The images are then reviewed, and the results go to the provider who ordered the exam, who goes over them with you.
